Guidelines for civil society in development policy

Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland

2010
Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland

Abstract: Civil society actors are an essential and integral element of Finnish development cooperation in its entirety. The activities of civil society organizations make it possible to achieve results in areas and regions and among groups of people that the resources and tools of public development cooperation do not always reach. At its best, grassroots cooperation is very effective. These new guidelines are the result of close interaction between the Ministry and Finnish civil society actors. The exchange of different opinions and views has helped to understand the nature of and preconditions for Finnish development cooperation. This process has deepened cooperation between the authorities and civil society actors and strengthens their partnership in pursuit of the common goal.
