Abstract: An important policy area for achieving development policy goals is commodity policy, as many countries in the global South depend on revenues from the export of raw materials and the extractive sector has a major impact on their development. In this brochure, the Global Responsibility Working Group therefore examines the extent to which Austria's raw materials policy in the field of mineral resources contributes to or hampers the implementation of the 2030 Agenda and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and thus sustainable development in the Global South. In doing so, we focus on mineral raw materials, as Austria is highly dependent on imports from these countries and Austrian politicians and entrepreneurs can influence the global commodities market in this area. Trade and investment policies play an important role as they are used to ensure access to mineral resources in world markets and also have a major impact on countries of the Global South. Finally, we make concrete recommendations to the Austrian government on how Austrian raw materials policy can support development policy objectives and how to improve the implementation of Policy Coherence for the sake of Sustainable Development (PCSD).
