Abstract: Much still remains to be negotiated and agreed by United Nations member states on the post-2015 sustainable development goals - the framework slated to succeed the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) when they expire in 2015. This briefing paper argues that young people, the majority of whom live in developing countries, should be included as key stakeholders - not only within the goals and targets of the framework, but also in post-2015 monitoring and accountability mechanisms. The paper sets out 5 principles to guide youth engagement in strengthening accountability for the post-2015 agenda from the local to national, regional and international levels.

Keyword(s): Young People ; post-2015 Agenda ; Inclusiveness ; Effectiveness ; Framework
